I'll usually rent it first, though, and make up my own mind. I find I agree with a lot of IGN reviews, so if they rate a game an 8 or better, I'll give it a rent. I also tend to buy games by game publishers I like, and their games tend to be consistently good (for example Square-Enix, Level-5, Insomniac, Capcom). So I'll typically buy a Final Fantasy game no matter what kind of reviews it got. Reviews don't guarantee you'll like a game, but a really bad review might save you from buying a game and only then finding out you don't like it. PC games tend to be buggy or shipped before really being finished and a review is the best way to find out how polished the game will be.
